Unfortunately, LJBackup does not seem to work any more - you're welcome to try it if you'd like, but it will probably fail to login.

Unfortunately, for this to work you have to provide your LiveJournal password. Do not do this if you don't know and trust me, as I could do all sorts of nasty things with it (I won't, but do you trust me?). Or you can change your LiveJournal password, do the backup and then change it back.

About this project: This project takes a LiveJournal and saves all the entries and comments, as well as calculating some interesting statistics. See a public-only backup of my LiveJournal. You might also be interested in LJBook, which will produce a nice-looking PDF document of your journal suitable for printing.

Source files (all of these were written in Ruby):

• doljbackup.cgi - sets up the session for status, etc.
• startljbackup.cgi - kicks off the downloading process.
• getljposts.rb - The main code that downloads the posts and emits the .html files for the statistics, etc.
• getljbackupstatus.cgi - Returns the current status of the download.
• downloadljbackup.cgi - The script that is called after the download is done, this packages up the files in a .zip and returns them.
• ljbackupjs.js - the JavaScript that calls to getljbackupstatus.cgi and displays the status.
