On Saturday, we took the MetroRail downtown to the Pecan Street Festival. It was quite crowded, but apparently that doesn't mean there will be Saturday service in the future. The single track problem is really a big obstacle at this point. I took some pictures:

while we were there, we walked by a booth for the Austin Planetarium, which doesn't exist yet. Did you know that Austin is the biggest city in the US with no planetarium? Or that Dallas has 12 of them? So we joined, mostly to stick it to Dallas. Jerks!

At the Palm Developer Day, I had my picture taken with my app. Nerdy, I know!

The Alamo Drafthouse is looking at eliminating lines at the South Lamar theatre and moving to a Southwest-style system. (with a followup post) They're also looking at more healthy food items.

Why do we root for underdogs?

A visualization of what color cultures associate with ideas - interesting that ones like heat, anger, truce, success are relatively uniform but death, peace, love are not.

Amazon is releasing a little bit of data about what people are reading on the Kindle, specifically the most highlighted passage - I mentioned the possibility earlier, but now I want more data!

Ooh, I definitely want to try out MetroRail next time I'm in Austin. I'm amused by the Howard stop, since it reminded me a lot of one of the major Chicago L stations that I stopped at/passed through a lot. It was also the terminus of the Red line.

There's 12 planetariums in Dallas?? I wonder if that's counting the whole metroplex. I know we have one here at the newly rebuilt Science and History Museum which I still need to check out. The photos I've seen of it look neato.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they were including Fort Worth and surrounding areas. But still!

MetroRail is cool but extremely limited - only M-F in the morning and late afternoon...

Oh yeah, I heard about the limited hours thing from my mom. Hopefully they'll be adding to it as time goes on. Here the main complaint about the TRE (commuter train between Fort Worth and Dallas) is that it only goes to midnight or so so if you're going on a bar crawl or something in Dallas it's easy to get stuck. *g*

An elementary school in my district had a planetarium. We all went there 2 or 3 times a year for field trips. Plus the one at Fair Park. One at UTD I think. And that's just what I remember off the top of my head w/no research. I didn't think planetariums were any big deal growing up because of it, but now I think they are really cool.

Aww. Growing up in Houston, we had an inferiority complex about Dallas. Or maybe that was just me?
