My Linux box is losing time...like a lot of time, over a minute an hour. Is there some battery I can replace on the motherboard or something?

I installed Windows on my Mac laptop last night with the help of Boot Camp. It worked, despite the fact that I did pretty much everything wrong or out of order. I really got into the groove of reading an instruction that contradicted what I had just done :-) Anyway, all the drivers and such work so maybe I have a hope for playing Warhammer Online, or possibly WoW crash-free!

yay, crash free! Our next step should be to install wow and see if that crashes on the windows side.

How old is the motherboard? Do you often turn off the box? There's a CMOS battery that keeps the clock ticking when power is off.

I'd also think about just using NTP.

No, I barely ever turn it off - but it sounds like the CMOS battery could be the problem anyway. Thanks!

I am using ntp, but I wasn't able (in a brief search last night) to find out how to make it sync up more - it would have to be doing it every couple of hours to be even somewhat accurate...

It should not only be syncing it should also be measuring your clock drift and compensating for it automatically.
