A coworker of mine is leaving to Google, which has the unintended consequence of making me feel jealous. And I hate feeling jealous.

So I guess what that means is I want a new project. I could rewrite the image-generating part of Pretty Pictures in something faster than Python (C++? D?), but that's not really exciting. Things with collaborative filtering or genetic algorithms are neat. I have a list of ideas at home that I guess I'll look at.

Or I could deal with my emotions, but that sounds a lot harder.

Also, did everyone give up on twitter?

Did Twitter ever have a point? I always thought of it as a technology demonstration more so than a useful tool.

I think it's kinda nice for random status messages, as well as links that I used to accumulate during the week and post on LJ.

What in particular is the technology demonstration? It seems to be using run-of-the-mill technologies, at least in what I interface with.

As for it being a tool, it's a neat way to 'microblog', particularly if you make use of the SMS messaging to update while you're not at the computer. I know I put a bunch of little random thoughts on there that I'd never remember or be bothered to put on livejournal just cause they were small thoughts and I had easy access to it. Even when I'm at the computer, it feels easier to update twitter, which limits you to 140 characters or whatnot, then to update livejournal, where I usually feel like I ought to say something more substantial (and then end up typing waaay too much anyway).

Like now.

Anyhoo, I haven't given up, I've just been kitty-distracted :P.

I can't believe you have cats! I WANT A KITTY. I've even been looking for my lease (which has mysteriously disappeared) to see if I'm technically allowed to, and at pictures from local adoption centers...

Aww :).
Well I hope you find that your lease allows you to :). Then go to the adoption centers and meet some kitties and you'll find your new friend :).

don't be jealous! go back to being happy about moving back to Austin! AUSTIN!

ALSO: (it's Austin related) Mom and Dad and I went to open face, which is like a super-pretentious but pretty yummy sandwich place around here (I think you would like all the cool sodas in bottles they have). and they had some random t-shirts and signs on the walls, and one said "Keep Portland Weird." we were all OUTRAGED at the blatant rip-off.

Mmm, looks delicious.

I know! I've heard of that slogan before. Grr.

What I'm looking forward to is when you write up a Facebook App MUD. Then I can never be bored again.

/attack rat
/loot rat
[You loot bracers of extremeness]
/equip Bracers of Extremeness
/north
[You see Greg Stoll and a Water Fountain]
/attack Greg Stoll
[you die noob, greg rules the facebook MUD world]

thats how I envisioned it at least.

Don't be jealous of Google jobs! That's out. Now, being jealous of people who work at Facebook is 'in'.
