So I have this $20 Best Buy gift card that's burning a hole in my pocket. Given the insane amount of music I need to keep me sane at work, I was thinking of getting some more Radiohead. Summize is this neat review aggregator that shows a nice 5 color bar summary of reviews (from super-awesome to wow-this-sucks), so I thought I'd see what it had to say about Radiohead albums. (although for some reason The Bends has very few reviews) Based on y'all's suggestions, I was thinking about picking up The Bends, Hail to the Thief, and maybe Kid A as well.

Wilco's good, too, right? I heard Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was good, but it's kinda countryish which I'm not thrilled about. (saw it described as a "Hillbilly OK Computer", which sounds...interesting) I need to listen to some samples when I get home...

My parents bought me a live recording of a Wilco concert. Now, I'm typically not a fan of live recordings in general, so I'm probably biased. Maybe they're better with mixing and editing on a prerecorded CD, but I was thoroughly unimpressed by the version I have :-/

Radiohead, on the other hand, is quite awesome (never seen them live, but that's not what we're talking about here). I'm a fan.

I am a fan of both Wilco and Radiohead (more so of the latter). I have seen both live. I did not like Wilco live. But their recorded stuff is very good, and I have a feeling I might be able to appreciate their live show more now that I am more familiar with their songs. Radiohead live was absolutely fucking amazing.

I like Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but I'm not a big fan of A Ghost Is Born. It is countryish, but it is good. Also, their new album, Sky Blue Sky is also good, but very countryish.

Everyone always leaves out Amnesiac. Oh well, get all the Radiohead albums. The only one I don't like is their first, Pablo Honey. Be aware that Kid A (and Amnesiac) is a significant departure from OK Computer and The Bends. Hail To The Thief lets off a little from that new direction, but not a whole lot. I personally really like that new direction, but take note that it may take several listens before you can get into tracks such as "Like Spinning Plates", "The National Anthem", "Idioteque", and Kid A's title track. They aren't immediately accessible—if you thought "Paranoid Android" was radio un-friendly (hostile?) at almost 6 and a half minutes long, you are in for a rude awakening. Think of it more as reaching enlightenment, though. :o)

Since I can't have my iPod here, I almost always listen to albums straight through, so it can be a little unclear to me where songs stop and start. (so I hadn't thought of "Paranoid Android" as radio unfriendly)

Hopefully I'll make it to Best Buy this week. Thinking of also picking up the new Linkin Park and Nine Inch Nails.
