Hopefully they'll get billed for the Coast Guard's time and use of equipment. How people get away with subsidizing their own rescues on federal money is beyond me.

ahhh, gotcha. i was hedging my bets w.r.t. work and a prior commitment not interfering, and a more specific time might have helped. i'm getting hijacked for a rowing thing tonight though :(

p.s. i don't remember you mentioning FlightPredictor for Android--did you say there was already an Android app that did the same thing? or was it that Android programming was time-consuming for now?

Comment on post rant: wisconsin, libya:

Qaddafi apparently has a large number of supporters to whom he has distributed small arms. That makes me think that the conflict here is less of an armed uprising against a hated dictator and more of a civil war between two supertribal factions. In that case, the lines get a little more blurred; we should certainly not take sides except to prevent wholesale loss of human life. Still, Qaddafi is the one that the media is claiming to have killed a lot of civilians. The official Libyan govt communiques, of course, deny this, and there's not very much in the way of verification. Qaddafi is not helping his case by restricting journalists either.

I can't believe the French are so willing to quickly intervene. Germany is going neutral here, as are China, Russia, and Brazil. I'm not sure what the US can even spare in terms of military power. The 7th fleet should still be supporting troops in Iraq...

so true. i didn't like rogen at all. he just can't turn off the stupid button. and jay chou was good but not great...it was as if they'd casted Data to play Kato's role, but with heavily accented english. except that Data does facial expressions and body language pretty well :p

Call it what it is: domestic terrorism. The plane crash in Austin killed one person; this shooter killed six people. I can't believe people didn't take him down sooner when he pulled out his gun.

shooting a revolver out of a gunman's hands is pretty freakin' impressive. handguns are inaccurate enough as it is.

goalie's mad dash - adrenaline and fear can motivate the human body to do amazing things ;) and you're right, he is better rested, relatively speaking.

I find the Swiss gov't's reasoning (as to why they hadn't arrested him earlier) to be fairly plausible and realistic. A lot of people seem to forget that extradition treaties are...well...treaties. They're agreements bound by law. You don't break the law because of your own perception of what's right, wrong, moral, or immoral. If you think the law is wrong, you work to change the law, but you do not break the law.

Austin, for its activist history and tech-savvy population, would be a terrible place to test such a practice. New York City might be a better one, at least, maybe the outskirts. But the notice has been given...TWC is very greedy.
