At the bottom of the peninsula there were a few houses.

Taro plants, which were a starchy staple for the Hawaiians.

These are African Tulips, which are fairly common in the rainforest.

There were a lot of pretty waterfalls along the way.

Apparently there was a landslide a few weeks before - you can see it past the truck. They're still cleaning up from it, so we had to park and wait for 25 minutes to pass through.

While we waited, we hiked down the road to get this picture of the waterfall just past the landslide.

Just outside of Hana we stopped at a tropical flower farm. This is a neat ginger bouquet.

They also had these pretty flowers, whose name escapes us at the moment. (tell me if you know!)

We arrived at Hana and ate by this beach. There we learned my Hawaiian name is Maka'ala and David's is Hiwahiwa or Kawika.

After lunch it was time for the helicopter ride back. Unfortunately, my camera batteries were running very low, so the following shots were chosen with care. Here's the US flag side by side with the Hawaiian state flag.
